German-American Steuben Parade of New York – 2015

German-American Steuben Parade of New York

Taking place on Saturday, September 19, 2015

Along Fifth Avenue from 64th Street to 86th Street.

German FlagThe parade features up to 50 groups from Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as German groups from other countries. The first Steuben Parade was held in Queens, NY.

We’ve been to this parade a number of times back when folks were actually allowed to congregate along the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. What a fine viewing spot that was. Unfortunately it’s rare that folks are allowed any more to stand on the steps there for the sake of taking in such parades. Regardless, this is one of those parades which yours truly has enjoyed thoroughly.

From the official site:

“The Parade’s goal is to provide the American public in general and our civic leaders in particular with a reminder of the part played by German immigrants and their descendants in the development of the United States of America. Today, we are proud of the achievements of hundreds of German-Americans, who shaped their new country.”
